UX Design
Welcome to my website. My name is Daye Kang. My research interests lie at the intersection of design, human-computer interaction (HCI), and human-AI interaction.
People have access to more data than ever, but more data does not lead to better understanding. My research agenda is to design human-AI interaction that makes data easier to use, understand, and communicate.
I use qualitative methods, including co-design and first-person studies, to understand people’s contexts, then design and evaluate systems that combine visualization and AI to support data sensemaking.
My research has been published at top-tier HCI conferences such as ACM CHI and CSCW, and has received a Best Paper Award and a Best Paper Honorable Mention Award.
I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in Information Science at Cornell University, advised by Malte Jung. Previously, I received my MS in Industrial Design from KAIST, advised by Andrea Bianchi, after receiving a BFA in Visual Communication Design at Hongik University.
My name is pronounced Da-Ye [da ye].
I am on the academic job market for the 2026–27 cycle.
